(November 07 2009 04:31:58 AM)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sTlzLQN6KY&feature=related

This is surely one of the finest video tributes ever to Australian actress Rachel Blakely, who played Marguerite Krux on The Lost World.

It includes clips not only from Lost World, but from her other series, such as Tales of the South Seas, and Mortified. And some photos from her modelling days, when she "made" many magazine covers Down Under.

Watch this all the way through, and hear the well-chosen music. You cannot fail to see why Rachel is practically worshipped by many of her fans. And she is a witty, modest actress, very gracious to her fans. I think she is a terrific person, and surely, a good wife and mother to her own family. (The baby that she is holding in the video is her son, Cooper. And the man with her at mark 3:56 is her American father.)

I hope that you will enjoy this tribute to her as much as I did. Please use the larger screen HQ format to view it. You'll be glad that you did.

Explorer
P.S. This video was created by the very talented Czech team known as Diamanta Bralova.

"There is nothing quite so exhilarating as to be shot at without effect." Basic armament was eight .50 caliber Browning machineguns.

The Fic is a Lost World one in the sense that the adult children of George and Finn Challenger are among the principal players, with their parents and the Earl and Countess of Avebury also in it. I think Finn will also soon employ one.

Marguerite's has ivory grips, instead of the checkered walnut ones on the example shown, and hers is extensively engraved. The one shown is the standard version, with a plain blued finish. It is in remarkable condition for a gun that hasn't been made since the 1940's! (Manufacture was from 1903-1944 app. Some may have been assembled from parts on hand following WW II.)

Until the 1920's, most that weren't especially ordered with other grip panels had molded hard rubber ones with a Colt logo on them. At that time, Colt changed to checkered wood grips on standard grade guns.

These were very well made guns, and certainly were sold in Britain and the Commonwealth, as well as in their native United States. The Roxtons, the Challengers, and Susan in my Fics could easily have obtained them via Colt's London office. Colt began selling guns in Britain in 1851, and contined until all practical legal civilian ownership of handguns ceased under a particularly repressive law that was passed in 1997. By then, the characters in the Lost World Fics would have all been dead. Needless to say, this law has disarmed only the law-abiding, and armed crime in Britain has actually increased. But that is a subject beyond the range of Lost World stories, although I may comment in a Fic that the heroes have had to wade through some red tape (bureaucratic procedures) to legally own their guns in the 1920's. For persons of their social class, especially for the noble Roxtons, that was mainly a formality, to be sure.

Anyway, if you encounter a Colt Pocket Model .32 automatic in the stories that I write, now you'll know what it looks like. The explorers often carry one when they want to wear a gun concealed on their persons, usually in town.

Explorer

"There is nothing quite so exhilarating as to be shot at without effect." It pictures two genuine American heroes. You'll probably recognize at least one, Jimmy Stewart.

Both men were actors, but also had very distinguished military records. Murphy is the most highly decorated US soldier of all time.
His grave at Arlington National Cemetary is the most visted, after that of President John F.
